INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION OF EXCELLENCE AT LEADING MIDLANDS BUSINESS SCHOOL
Aston Business School is unique in the UK with its association with the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honour society, which recognises excellence in the top 10% of students in the field of business on undergraduate business programmes. BGS has over half a million members across five continents and is recognised throughout the business world.

BGS - which upholds Honour, Wisdom and Enthusiasm – was created in 1913 in America and is open to all business schools which are accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate of Business (AACSB). It is a lifetime membership for people who have been honoured

for high academic achievement in business, and the society fosters personal and professional excellence amongst its members. Members take an oath on induction to behave responsibly and professionally throughout their career.

“It is a true honour for a student to be awarded membership,” explained Professor Michael West, Executive Dean of Aston Business School.

“It is not just a significant addition to their CV, but a resource for ideas, career development and professional and social networking. We are honoured to have the first and only UK chapter at Aston which underlines our commitment to our students and to creating a school which gives an inspirational learning environment to develop excellence in all.”

Chris Axford from Cambridge became a BGS member last November as he entered his final year, achieving a first classification in Business Computing and IT. He was awarded a BGS scholarship of $1000 for his final year and has conducted his placement module in IT at Vauxhall in Luton: “I felt privileged to be invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma; it’s very rewarding to be recognised for all the hard work needed to achieve a high academic level. I truly believe that this will help with my prospects for the future.”

Chris explained that he chose Aston Business School for the excellence of the work placements as well as the course itself, a sentiment echoed by fellow award winner Katie Luke. Katie from County Durham received the award for Best Overall Final Year Student on a single honours programme. She will be moving on to a Human Resources role for Rolls Royce.

“I was attracted to Aston not only because of the excellent course and work placements but also the central campus, it still feels small and friendly but you have all the benefits of Birmingham city centre on your doorstep.”

Following graduation BGS members remain part of the society within the Alumni programme which gives added weight to Aston Business School’s already renowned international Alumni network.
