NEW DEGREE COURSE HELPS HIGER EDUCATION STAFF TO WIN PROMOTION
Aston Business School (ABS) has introduced a new course to help people win the promotion they deserve without giving up their day job.
The foundation degree is aimed at those already working in Higher or Further Education who want to get a qualification without giving up their salary. They can add to their existing knowledge of the sector and enhance their career prospects while studying in the heart of Birmingham city centre.
It is also aimed at those who have non-traditional qualifications and who would like a route towards a degree. The three-year, part-time, distance learning course in Management and Administration requires delegates to attend the university for one day per month.
They then carry out the rest of their studies in the workplace, assisted by a range of online materials.
Dr Helen Higson, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Pro Vice Chancellor for International Relations, said the course was a great chance to improve your career prospects without giving up your job.
“We identified a need for this course from our own careers and we believe it will prove especially popular with people already working in Higher or Further Education,” she said.
“We are already a centre of excellence for this type of practical career course and this will strengthen our appeal to prospective students.”
ABS is the third university in the country to start the course but is aiming to be the best, by focusing on the needs of the individual student.
Dr Higson added: “By concentrating on the individual delegate we can take into account their needs within the sector, so this is a great chance to gain a degree while you work.”
The course will be delivered at Matthew Boulton College, adjacent to Aston Business School’s campus. Upon completion delegates will be eligible to proceed to the final year of an honours degree at Aston.
Inductions take place in October. For more information about the course, contact Phil Barnes on 0121 446 4545 or email p.barnes@mbc.ac.uk
