Bar Sport – A Rugby First
21/11/06
Bar Sport, the Midlands based sports themed specialist is set to open a brand new venue in Rugby, a town with a long and illustrious sporting history but up until now, no dedicated venue to cater for sports fans. Bar Sport aims to entertain enthusiasts and to keep everyone close to the action, as well as creating a great atmosphere for a female crowd who may not be so sport minded.
The company, headed by passionate sports enthusiast Scott Murray has invested more than £1m in the new Rugby location, which is only a spin pass away from Rugby School, where the game began. The expansion is part of a 3 year, ten-venue plan and follows on from the resounding success of Bar Sport’s venues in Walsall and Cannock that were launched in 1998.
Regionally, Bar Sports has built a reputation not just for putting small screen sporting action onto the big screen, but for becoming part of the sporting community, with personal appearances from world-class sporting heroes, a fantastic array of memorabilia and events that cover the whole spectrum, including the sports you’d expect as well as ones that you wouldn’t imagine. So strong is the bars’ infectious enthusiasm for sport, this summer they managed to attract a different member of the original 1966 World Cup winning squad to each of the 5 England matches to watch the action with the Bar Sport crowd. It’s a precedent that the new venue is sure to follow.
Scott Murray explained “We’re delighted with Rugby, the fit-out is exceptional with designs from Birmingham based Newman Gauge who have created the first all-high definition screen scheme in the UK, which makes viewing simply world class. You’d expect that we could have a slight rugby bias in the venue, but we’re recognising other sports and local sports people too – Michele Marsella for example, the England Commonwealth High Jumper, a local girl who has loaned some excellent Commonwealth Games memorabilia from the 1990 competition and who has already been into the building site to see where it’s going to be displayed.”
“Next on the expansion list is Loughborough, where we have been the first bar to obtain a licence within a saturation zone, purely on the strength of our unique sports offering and the reputation of our other bars. We’re not able to reveal all of the planned new locations, but we’re looking at secondary towns with strong sporting links; in the Midlands area, Cheltenham and Worcester are already on the list.”
Bar Sport Rugby opens on 1st December with A thirty-strong compliment of new staff offering a carefully selected menu for armchair fans, in zoned areas created for different levels of enthusiasm and participation in sports watching. As well as the main bar area, which will be at its absolute best when the viewing excitement and tension mounts, there will also be high-level booths, so you can see and be seen, relaxed private booths for a more laid back experience and even a ‘cool pool’ area which defies the green baize tradition and introduces a colour and style that’s set to attract the very best of the Warwickshire sports cognoscenti.
