HAULAGE FIRM FAVOURS ADBLUE
A leading Shropshire haulage firm has hailed the arrival of its latest truck - saying it performs better because of an additive to improve exhaust emissions. Telford-based ET Rowlands and Sons recently received a new DAF, fitted with the AdBlue system, from Greenhous DAF in Shrewsbury.

The additive destroys harmful pollutants in the exhaust gases of diesel lorries and is carried onboard the vehicle in a tank separate to the fuel system. When properly circulated into the exhaust gases, the oxides of nitrogen formed by combustion of diesel fuel are converted into their basic and non-polluting forms - nitrogen and water.

Andy Sumner, transport manager at ET Rowlands and Sons, said AdBlue had made a big difference to the efficiency of the new truck. “There is a slight cost to it but the performance of the engine is far better and we believe it makes them last longer,” he said.“We are constantly upgrading the fleet and every time we replace one we will make sure they are fitted with AdBlue.”

ET Rowlands and Sons, based on the Halesfield 5 Industrial Estate, has a fleet of 20 trucks which will continue to be updated by Greenhous Commercials. Andy Sumner added: “The engine is the best they have ever built and adding AdBlue to the exhaust has made it better for the environment.“The drivers know when to fill up with AdBlue, which is about every two weeks, and at the end of the day it is all about performance in the haulage game. “We get more miles to the gallon so we are really pleased.”

Kevin Comerford, sales manager at Greenhous Commercials, said: “We are delighted to work with ET Rowlands and Sons to reduce the environmental impact of their fleet through AdBlue.”
