100 YEARS CELEBRATION AT BLACK COUNTRY COMPANY
A leading Black Country truck company is celebrating 100 years of service.
Three members of staff have been awarded gold watches for 25 years each at Greenhous Commercials in Wolverhampton.
And the business itself has just passed the quarter century mark at its base in Neachells Lane, Willenhall.
Receptionist Jan Rowley was presented a bouquet of flowers this week, after she became the third employee to reach the milestone.
Jan, a mother of one, will retire in December on the same day as her husband of 42 years, Mick.
She is planning a nice holiday and to spend more time walking and gardening.
“The day I leave I will really miss it because the people have made it so special,” she said.
“It was a very small place when I started and it looked quite different to now, but I remember everybody was learning what to do from scratch.”
Fleet Parts Sales Manager Peter Salmon and Alan Jones, who orders spare parts for the mechanics in Greenhous’s service centre, both joined the business when they were 29.
They said it was getting harder to keep customers happy but it meant there was always a fresh challenge to look forward to.
“I’ve been in the motor trade all my working life and I wouldn’t want to do anything else,” Peter Salmon said.
Alan Jones added: “There is always that hidden challenge to keep you busy and modern technology means manufacturers are bringing out new vehicles with new parts.”
Scott Roseburgh, Director of Greenhous Willenhall, said: “I am very proud of Jan, Peter and Alan for their exceptional dedication and invaluable commitment to Greenhous.
“I am also very proud that the business itself has gone from strength to strength over the last 25 years.
“That is due largely to the efforts of all our staff, but in particular the expertise and customer knowledge of our longest-serving employees.”
