HALL GREEN STADIUM’S FIRST FIREWORKS NIGHT IS A SUCCESS
The first fireworks night to be held at Birmingham’s Hall Green Greyhound Stadium has been hailed a huge success.

More than 2,000 people enjoyed the spectacular Bonfire Night Bonanza at the York Road stadium, which included a stunning display of thousands of pounds of pyrotechnics.

The track stepped in when Birmingham City Council pulled its Edgbaston event, leaving the south of the city without a display this year.

There was also a wealth of entertainment, including fairground rides, fire-eaters, stilt walkers and a competition for the best Guy Fawkes.

The winner was three-year-old Dylan Black from Solihull, who got the chance to press down the plunger that kickstarted the event last night. (MONDAY, NOV 5)

His nan, Annette Black, who is a regular at the stadium when greyhounds race around the track, said: “It was a brilliant night out and it’s great that kids were given lots to keep them entertained so we could come as a family.”

Youngsters also danced the night away at a children’s disco and the fireworks were shown again afterwards on the many television screens inside the stadium.

Stephen Rea, General Manager of Hall Green, said: “This has been an overwhelming success for our first year and we had so many positive comments from people who said they loved the event.

“But we are confident we can make it even better for next year for the people of south Birmingham.”
