Antipodean anticipation of a great night at the dogs
09/04/08

More than 1,000 Ozzies, Kiwis and South Africans are set to descend on Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium for the third biannual Antipodean evening.

A human race will be the star attraction of a night of fun, which includes beers from 'down under' and a host of events and experiences to remind everyone of home.

There will be one runner representing each nation - Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Great Britain, who will race around the dog track, with the chance to win a 14 day trip around Europe from Tucan Travel.

As well as all the fun and frolics of an already popular night, there will be a full night of greyhound racing action to entertain the crowds.

One New Zealander has already expressed his delight at the prospect of hearing so many similar accents to his own.

Stadium Manager Darren Kennedy, a Kiwi, said: "We're expecting a great night and more than 1,000 extra people through the turnstiles, many of which will sound very similar to me, so that's going to be great.

"This is a fantastic way for visitors to experience a great British night out, and we've put together a special 'Antipodean deal'. For only £10 they'll get entry to the stadium, a race card, a tote betting voucher, traditional Wimbledon Pie and Chips as well as two Antipodean beers. That's got to be the makings of a great night out!"
