Artwork unveiled at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium
11/02/08

Giant paintings of greyhounds and stock cars have been unveiled inside Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium.
Artist Debbie Jew created the colourful images to spruce up the turnstile entrance to the Plough Lane track.
The huge wall displays feature greyhounds dining in the restaurant and racing around the track. But the most striking is a 12ft wide painting of stock car racing, which takes place at the track on Sundays.
New General Manager Darren Kennedy commissioned the artwork after taking over the post last month (January).
He also plans to bring in a stock car to display in front of the painting, to wow visitors when they arrive.
Darren Kennedy said he was delighted with the work.
“I knew Debbie was an extremely talented artist but I was still blown away by these paintings, she really has done a fantastic job,” he said.
“They create an attractive focal point at the entrance and I think visitors will appreciate our efforts to welcome them to Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium.”
Debbie Jew has spent the past two weeks painting directly onto the walls and said the stock cars was her biggest painting ever.
“I love painting big and a project like this was a great opportunity for me to use bold colours,” she said.
“I tried to give the paintings a bit of perspective because they will be seen from quite far away and I am very pleased with them.”
