Anti Scald Delay Is No Bother By Cynthia Fisher, Intatec
Just like our competitors and many in the trade, we have been eagerly anticipating changes to the building regulations, designed to prevent hot water scalding in bathrooms, expected to come into force early in 2006. Since the changes were announced, our company, Intatec has been working hard to put together a regulation compliant thermostatic range, and have been constantly promoting the thermostatic safety message.

It was a surprise to discover that there has been a delay in implementation of the Government programme, which means that the changes are now expected a year later, in 2007. We aren’t entirely sure why, since it is one of the most sensible regulations there have been for years. We suspect it is budgetary. Initially, we were disappointed, thinking that there would be an impact on the market, and our business, which has been growing steadily since the changes were announced. But we feel that, on reflection, the installation of thermostatic mixing valves, shower valves and our own market leading bath shower mixer, the Intaduo has a momentum that won’t be affected by the delay. True, we were expecting a peak in sales going into the New Year that won’t happen, but specifiers, merchants and fitters are already getting the thermostatic message and beginning to fit as a matter of routine. After all, fitting now means extra revenue, for everyone in the supply chain, which has to be good.

The technical aspects of specifying thermostatic controls can look a little complicated at first glance, so we’ve taken the time to put together a handy on-line guide at www.intaco.co.uk as well as offering advice and support from our technical department. So when the regulations do come in, everyone will be trained, stocked and ready for the rush. Well, we are and our merchants are well on the way.

So we look forward to the confirmation of a date from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and in the mean time, we will continue to expand and refine our TMV2 and TMV3 compliant range, which is the important accreditation to look out for, and the important thing to be fitting, right now.
