Inta has solar flair
09/08/06
Environmental concerns, spiralling fuel bills and constantly evolving technology has led to a huge increase in the popularity of solar heating systems. Thermostatic control for hot water is increasing in popularity too, driven by the obvious anti-scald safety benefits, as well as the prospect of legislation to limit the outlet temperature of hot water in bathrooms. Solar systems can reach very high temperatures, even exceeding the normal 85 degrees maximum inlet of standard mixing valves (TMV`s), so Inta have produced Intamix Solar, anti-scald valves engineered for high temperature extremes as Cynthia Fisher of anti-scald specialists Intatec explains:
“Without the correct anti-scald valve, solar heated water at staggeringly high temperatures can be delivered to a bath, sink or shower. For traditionally heated water, TMV accredited anti-scald valves are ideal, mixing water down to a safe and usable temperature.”
In solar systems, water temperatures can exceed 100 degrees, so solar anti-scald valves have to function across a wide temperature band. Intamix Solar valves also have an enhanced performance to accommodate the high flow rates needed to blend a high differential in hot and cold, bringing outlet water to a safe temperature in practical quantities.
Cynthia added “Our usual anti-scald message explains how scalding can occur at surprisingly low temperatures, but I don’t think it needs any explanation to understand what devastating results there could be from un-regulated or incorrectly regulated solar-heated water coming straight out of a tap.”
The Intamix Solar range has been engineered for inlet temperatures up to 100 degrees and performs soundly, day in, day out, even when the British weather isn’t reaching continental heights.
Inta has technical information available online at www.intaco.co.uk or by calling the technical team on 01889 207200. They are able to offer advice on specification of valves for any particular installation. Inta also publishes a booklet, “Everything you need to know about anti-scald” which is available free from plumbers merchants across the UK.
