Brits are better informed about buying property abroad
01/04/08

British buyers are better informed than ever when it comes to splashing out on property abroad – which is why more and more of us are doing just that.

The dream of living by the sea and enjoying lots more sunshine is still the most popular choice, and destinations like Cyprus are leading the way.

So say organisers of the Property Investor Show, the exhibition for people who are serious about making money from property.

Nick Clark is Managing Director of Homebuyer Events, which has organised the Property Investor Show at Birmingham’s NEC from April 11 to 13.

He said: “There is no doubt that British buyers are looking to invest abroad in greater numbers and our show’s visitors are very well informed about what they want to purchase.

“Although more developments are springing up inland than ever before, the attraction of the seaside is still the major reason for investing abroad.

“What the show offers is the chance to speak to the experts to learn more about the destinations available, so visitors can make a more informed choice.”

The show also includes a range of seminars which give an insight into all aspects of buying and managing property, both in the UK and abroad.

One exhibitor is Oikos Developers, a family-owned apartments, villas and management company based in Cyprus.

Tony Rees, Sales and Marketing Manager, said the south-east coast of the island was proving to be a hotspot in more ways than one.

“I used to live in Wales where we had 345 days of rain, now I live in Cyprus where we have 345 days of sunshine,” he said.

“I believe many more buyers at the Birmingham show will be better informed than in previous years and will go there with a more specific property and location in mind.

“We are finding more people know where they want to be and our business is very strong and growing because of the location – being on or very near beach fronts brings in very good rental income.”

He added: “A lot of people have moved inland but we haven’t because we believe people want the sea view.

“However I think the market will level off because more and more people are buying to invest.”

Tony Rees said Cyprus is very appealing to Brits, because English is the second language and included on all signs, there is little or no crime and the island has five golf courses with a further 14 approved for development.

He added: “There has never been a downturn of property prices in Cyprus’s history and I don’t see there being one now.”

The Property Investor Show is free to enter but visitors need to pre-register online at www.propertyinvestor.co.uk
