SCIENCE MUSEUM SITE IS ON TRACK FOR PRESTIGIOUS NEW DEVELOPMENT
07/02/07

The City of Birmingham steam train spent its early retirement in the original Science Museum on Newhall Street. Now, not only has the train got a new prestigious home but the Science Museum site has been promised a new lease of life with a £65 million facelift. This extensive revamp will be launched to visitors at the Property Investor Show to be held at the NEC from March 23rd. With over 150 exhibitors the show is targeted at investors at every level covering all aspects of property investment.

When the sad demise of the Museum came, the steam train, which amused many little boys and no doubt big boys too with its frequent shift backwards and forwards on its tracks, was moved to the Thinktank at Millennium Point.

The facelift will incorporate apartments, shops, cafes, bars and galleries facing onto what will be a piazza, newly named Newhall Square.

“This site has such an interesting history.” commented Lawrence Parnell, Managing Director for R O St Bernards Ltd, the developer. “Built around 1800 it is the original site for the Elkington Plating Works, the first electroplating company, and is also where celluloid was developed. We have recovered many original and interesting features which we plan to incorporate into the development. The show will give us a platform to announce the opportunities that this exciting development offers investors.”

Exhibitors at the show include developers, estate agents, landlord associations and leading property experts. Visitors will also have the chance to attend seminars over the three days on selling, buying, financing and managing your property.
