SUNDERLAND DOGS BRACED FOR IRISH INVASION WITH MASSIVE PRIZE MONEY ON OFFER
This weekend sees the start of the biggest ever greyhound race meeting outside of London, when the Tetley’s Sunderland Greyhound Stadium hosts the first UK Festival of Greyhound Racing (starting on Saturday 12th May through to Tuesday 22nd May) with a massive total prize fund of over £120,000 (€180,000).

With top competitions and a unique series of Anglo-Irish International races, there has been huge interest from the world of greyhound racing with all the top trainers from the UK and Ireland entering their best dogs to battle it out for the big money on offer.

“Sunderland Stadia is now the Cheltenham Festival of dog racing,” commented David Hood, spokesperson for the Stadium. “we have been inundated with entries for all the top dogs on both sides of the Irish Sea, in fact almost 30% of runners are travelling over from Ireland; no UK competition has ever seen such an interest from across the water.” Local hotels and business can expect a boost from the Festival with up to six-thousand visitors expected to attend the meeting from all over the UK and Ireland. “It’s going to be a real head-to-head between the best of the British and the best of the Irish.” said Hood.

The finals night will be shown live on Sky Sports on the 22nd May starting at 7:40pm and all four dates should prove extremely popular with the punters. The Stadium has a huge capacity and you can enjoy all the action from the glass-fronted bar, the restaurant or even trackside for real thrills and spills.
