JULIA REFLECTS ON 103RD BIRTHDAY
09/05/08
Centenarian Julia Harris settles back in reflection as she celebrates her 103rd birthday.
Born in 1905, Julia came into the world amidst the stir surrounding the formidable suffragettes Emmeline Pankhurst and daughter, Christabel, in their quest to win the vote for women. A century on and despite failing eyesight and impaired hearing, Julia is still going strong and, with the help of her daughter Joan, continues to live independently at home in Shoeburyness, near Southend.
Local care provider, SureCare Southend, supply night care to Julia. Her evening carer, Pat Long said: “Julia is an incredible lady, she is fiercely independent and likes to manage things for herself. Julia and her daughter, Joan, are an inspiration to us all.”
SureCare Southend provides domiciliary care to surrounding areas from Benfleet to Shoeburyness, taking in Hadleigh, Leigh on Sea, Westcliff on Sea, Southend and Rochford. The 103-year-old celebrated with a glass of champagne but her taste buds have certainly not waned, as she said she preferred a glass of sherry or a small tipple of whisky!
