CANNOCK CONKER CONTEST CALLS ON COMPANIES TO COMPETE
The Cannock Conker Contest 2007 has called on companies to go bonkers for conkers.

Dozens of entrants are expected to battle it out for the title and a first prize of £20.

The charity event is organised and sponsored by advertising and PR agency Ward Lovett, which is based at Kingswood Lakeside.

It is being held at The Stumble Inn in Walsall Road, Bridgtown on October 9 from 5pm.

The competition will be played to traditional rules and Cannock-based companies are invited to collect their conkers to compete.

But for those who can’t, a limited number will be made available - upon application.

Ward Lovett is inviting all businesses in Cannock to send up to four people to compete and has set up a website to explain the contest.

Ward Lovett Managing Director Kerst Ward urged businesses to sign up soon for a fun but competitive evening.

“The conker contest sees some quite hard fought battles take place, but it is all in great spirits,” he said.

“It is brilliant to bring together some of our neighbouring businesses with a light-hearted event and we look forward to some exciting battles.”

The Cannock Conker Contest is in its second year but Ward Lovett has held the competition for seven years, with previous events taking place at its Birmingham offices, prior to a move to Cannock’s Marston Court development 12 months ago.

It costs £5 per person to enter and all proceeds will go to Heart FM to donate to their chosen charity.

The international rules of the World Conker Championships will be used.
