'First aid course helped save my baby's life'

Claimar Care   Friday 17 October 2008
'First aid course helped save my baby's life'The Primary Care Training Group in Chester have received a heartfelt thank you after a mum came forward to tell how her first aid training 'probably saved her baby's life' Mum, Melanie Mellor had recently completed a 12-hour Paediatric First Aid Course with Primary Care Training, when the skills she learned were put to use in a real-life situation. At their home in Hyde, Cheshire, Melanie's baby daughter who is 13 months old, woke up coughing and being sick. A little later the baby choked and stopped breathing. Whilst her husband rang for an ambulance, Melanie leapt into action using techniques she had learned on the course. She said: "My baby stopped breathing three times in all, I have never been so frightened. I probably didn't do everything exactly right but I remembered enough. Primary Care Training Group explained that unlike adult first aid, the Paediatric course teaches specific techniques applicable to infants and young children and because Melanie had the appropriate training, she was able to assist her little girl effectively. Melanie and her baby girl remained in hospital overnight for observation and were released with a clean bill of health the following morning. The Primary Care Training Group based at St. Mary's Hill, Chester was founded in 1999. The company offers a wide range of training packages in all areas of health care including NVQ and management courses.
