
A major greyhound racing event has returned to Birmingham. William Hill.com Birmingham Cup has attracted a record number of entries this year, with more than 60 greyhounds vying for the 36 places available. The racing takes place over three nights at Perry Barr Stadium with a £6500 first prize for the top dog. The competition is open to all UK trainers and greyhounds will be travelling from as far afield as Sunderland.
Carol Chown -Smith, Perry Barr Stadium's general manager said: "We are pleased to welcome the Birmingham Derby back to Perry Barr again. The competition has attracted a particularly high quality selection of dogs this year and a strong favourite has already emerged. We are pleased to welcome visitors from across the UK and know that our regular race-goers are going to enjoy some very exciting racing.
The heats began today (Friday 9th January), with semi finals next week (Friday 16th January) and the final on Thursday 22nd January.
