Race goers see red - noses

An Oxford entertainment venue is going all out to support Comic Relief this year by offering free admission for anyone who turns up wearing red. Officials at Oxford Greyhound Stadium hope that the offer will make customers feel more charitable so they donate money to the Red Nose Day appeal.

The event will take place on the race night of Thursday 12th March which gives the stadium the chance to raise money before the main Comic Relief day on Friday 13th. Staff with red noses will be on hand throughout the night with collection pots for anyone wishing to donate. To further encourage customers, General Manager Maureen Ridley will be giving racegoers who attend in red clothing a ticket for a free prize draw. The prize donated by the stadium is a free night out at the dogs for a group of four people, including admission and a three-course meal in the restaurant. Maureen said, "We hope that customers really get into the spirit of things and join in with our Red Nose Day theme.

The money raised will go to Comic Relief to help transform lives across Africa and the UK. The first Red nose day event took place in 1988 and raised £15m.  In total, the eleven red nose days have raised £420m.

Maureen added, "We will still be having a full programme of greyhound racing but we're committed to raise as much money for charity as possible. We hope that what we're doing will encourage people to donate.
