Dunlop brings Popbang art to Goodwood stand

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed the Dunlop Stableyard enclosure will not only be hosting some of the world’s most high tech supercars on Dunlop rubber they will also be presenting something a bit different, pieces of art called Popbang.

Popbang is a friendly explosion of colour created by automotive artist Ian Cook. The art is a meeting of Cook’s main passions - cars and art. These themes have always been present in Cook’s artwork, whether it is through the medium of photography, painting or sculpture. The art uses tyre tread patterns to make unique designs and paintings.

Cook originates from Solihull in the West Midlands, and has grown up in a county that historically is known for its automotive industry. Being brought up and now based in the Midlands, Birmingham based Dunlop felt it was fitting to display Cook’s work at their Goodwood Stableyard stand. Not only do Cook and Dunlop share a home town but Cook also uses Dunlop tyres to produce his one off pieces of art.

“The Popbang art will be displayed in our Stableyard enclosure for all to see. We also have a piece of commissioned art which we will be asking the stars on our stand to sign. This will then be auctioned off and proceeds will be spilt between, Teenage Cancer Trust and the Lewis Hamilton Foundation” said James Bailey, Dunlop Communications Manager.

“The Dunlop stand will be filled with motorsport star interviews, world class sports cars and some of Dunlop’s most iconic vehicles. The Popbang art will be yet another innovative factor for visitors to the stand. Many thanks to Ian Cook for providing his outstanding artwork and donating a piece to auction for our selected charities” concluded James.
