The motor dealer that has occupied the landmark Clock Garage in Castle Bromwich since the 1950s has celebrated the opening of brand new purpose-built premises in nearby Erdington, following a £4m move.
Peugeot dealer Robins and Day came to the end of the lease on the Clock Garage building, deciding that it was time to make a move to somewhere with more space and better facilities.
Dealer Principal Paul Cole explains; “The Clock Garage felt like a family business, despite being part of a national dealer network. The building felt like home, but a home in need of more space and a bit of a make-over. We could only achieve more space by moving. We will do our utmost to preserve that family feeling and as all of our team have made the move with us, that shouldn’t be too difficult.”
“The old garage was purpose built when personal motoring was becoming affordable in the 1940s and things have changed considerably since then. Purpose built in 2010 is completely different. It means spacious showrooms and well equipped service areas. It also means light and airy office space and plenty of room for car displays and for customer parking.”
“Some of the staff were sad to say goodbye to the old garage, but the Tyburn Road premises are so much better. It’s been hard work moving after such a long time, but it’s fantastic to have everything shiny and new. We look forward to welcoming customers, old and new to our exciting new site.”
Joining the Robins and Day team in the launch celebrations were customers, local dignitaries, representatives from the local community and senior staff from car manufacturer Peugeot.
Owners of the original Clock Garage, BP have not revealed what they plan to do with the site.
